When you arrive at our residential treatment program, you will first meet with one of our counselors and medical team to complete initial assessments and admission paperwork to help us gain an understanding of the severity of your alcohol addiction and be able to create a specific, individualized plan that will support you in overcoming your withdrawal symptoms and safely heal from the psychological and physical dependence on alcohol that has been created.
After completing the initial admission process, you will be brought to your room within our residential treatment center to begin your alcohol detox process. Patients will be placed in a room where you will share with another patient who is going through an alcohol detox program. Each patient has their own bed, tv, and luxury amenities that will assist in you feeling comfortable and at ease throughout your detox process.
What To Expect During Detox?
As you go through your alcohol medical detox, you will have the consistent support and supervision of medical professionals that will monitor your progress and ensure that you are being provided with the levels of care that you need to successfully overcome your detox process. As you start to experience the onset of alcohol withdrawal symptoms, you will be provided with medication management to ease the severity of symptoms felt and reduce the intensity of alcohol cravings so that you can remain focused on your alcohol rehab program and overcoming your substance abuse concerns.
How Long is Detox?
The length of time that you will be on medical detoxification will be dependent on your own personal history with alcohol and drug abuse. Patients can be in medical detoxification for a period of a couple days for up to a couple weeks. Typically, patients will begin to feel the onset of withdrawal symptoms within a few hours of being in detox and will feel the peak of withdrawal symptoms within 72 hours. As your symptoms lessen and you become physically stable and healthy, you will be ready to transition into an alcohol rehab program to address the underlying causes for your alcohol addiction.
Symptoms of Alcohol Detox
Depending on the severity of your alcohol addiction, you will experience a wide range of withdrawal symptoms as your body attempts to modify its functioning without the influence of alcohol. Withdrawal symptoms that you may experience are:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Increased heart rate
- Elevated blood pressure
- Erratic mood swings or changes
- Heart palpitations
- Insomnia or difficulty sleeping
- Hyperthermia
- Tremors or shakes
- Visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations
- Rapid breathing patterns
- Seizures
- In severe alcohol withdrawal instances, patients may experience delirium tremens which pose a risk for life threatening symptoms if not treated by a licensed medical professional within a medical detox
Acute Detox
Acute detox is defined as patients experiencing severe, life-threatening withdrawal symptoms that must be medically supervised 24 hours a day to ensure patient safety and well being as there is the potential of fatal side effects within the detox process.
Sub-Acute Detox
Sub-Acute detox is intended for those patients that are undergoing addiction recovery and experiencing mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms. Patients are unable to participate in a sub acute detox within an outpatient treatment setting, through an urgent care facility, or an inpatient rehab setting. There can be the option of patients detoxing from drugs and alcohol from the comfort of your own home if you are experiencing sub acute detox symptoms but will require that you check in with an addiction treatment center as you complete your at home alcohol or drug detox. Sub acute detox can still occur over a period of days or weeks depending on the person but you will experience withdrawal symptoms that are more manageable and bearable to process then if you were in acute alcohol or drug detox.
